The 73rd Battalion: Royal Highlanders of Canada

Paul P. Hutchison
4.9/5 (24177 ratings)
Description:The 5th Regiment, Royal Highlanders of Canada, today's Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) of Canada, supplied three full service battalions to the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) during the Great War, 1914-1918: the 13th, 42nd, and 73rd Battalions. The official history of the 13th by R.C. Fetherstonhaugh was published in 1925 with the 42nd by C.B. Topp following six years later. Both remain valuable resources for Great War researchers and prized acquisitions for collectors. In the 1930s, the surviving officers of the 73rd Battalion asked Colonel Paul P. Hutchison to write the official history of their battalion, which had been disbanded in 1917 with its survivors mostly being transferred to the 13th, 42nd and 85th Battalions, CEF. While this task was completed by mid-1944, the book was never published, although a small number of typed volumes were printed as presentation copies. Long over-due, this official history of the 73rd Battalion is an accurate and faithful reproduction of Colonel Hutchison's original limited-edition printed version, using the same photographs which had been selected in 1944. Finally, the three battalion histories of Canada's Black Watch during the Great War can now--as the surviving officers of the 73rd Battalion desired--"rest together on a library shelf in their proper order..." This publication includes a comprehensive nominal roll, honour roll, and list of honours and awards. These lists have been meticulously researched and brought up to date using archival resources which were unavailable to the original author in the 1940s.We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
