The book was divided into five chapters according to five families that had influenced the decline of Tang Dynasty. These five families were: three generations of Tang Xuanzong, his father and his sons; Zhu Wen and his sons, Li Keyong and his sons, Liu Rengong and his sons, Wang Jian and his sons. They were inextricably linked with each other. Except the royal family Li of Tang Dynasty, the other four families took the opportunity to threaten the court and strengthen their power, and finally Zhu Wen usurped Tang Dynasty.
