Watch Over Me (Detectives Kane and Alton, #28)

Stepping onto the icy sidewalk, she doesn’t see a soul around her. But as she nears the safety of her vehicle, she hears the sound of heavy footsteps. She barely has time to take a breath before a sack is thrown over her head, and her world goes dark…

It’s Christmas in Black Rock Falls, and as the snow falls, schoolteacher Ellie McBride races to the office of Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane. She says she escaped being kidnapped. Days later, when a deadly message is written on the whiteboard in Ellie’s classroom, it’s clear whoever took her still has her in his sights.

Jenna is determined to catch the person responsible, and as she watches footage of the attempted kidnapping, something doesn’t add up. Why is Ellie missing from the footage? Did the kidnapper cover his tracks, or is Ellie telling lies about what happened?

Days later, social worker Laney Prescott is reported missing. Worried that it could be the same person, Jenna rushes to Laney’s small home, but she’s already too late. Taking in Laney’s long dark hair, which hangs limp over her face, and the thick cord wrapped around her neck, Jenna fears that a twisted monster is stalking vulnerable women. She vows to hunt them down and bring them to justice.

But as heavy snow begins to block off roads and homes in the small town, the murderer uses the opportunity to take his next victim. A young nurse is missing, and as Jenna closes in on the killer, she finds herself in unthinkable danger thanks to the treacherous conditions. Can Jenna survive and catch the murderer, or will this be her last case?
