Murder on Lovatt Island (DI Marjory Fleming #7)

Previously published as Evil for Evil.

Off the wild Galloway coast lies Lovatt Island, a grey shape in the mist. The locals still call it by its old Gaelic name, Tascadan — treasure — and swear the place is haunted.

Two boys dare each other into a hidden cave on the island. Inside they find a human skeleton, still shackled to the rock where it was left to die.

Detective Marjory Fleming is brought in to investigate.

The only clue to the victim’s identity is a modern wristwatch still fastened to his bones. No name. No missing person. No obvious killer.

The island’s owner, Matt Lovatt, is a scarred former soldier who has turned the isolated sanctuary into a refuge for traumatised veterans. But someone is determined to drive him away, and the attacks against him are becoming increasingly vicious.

Then a young woman is found brutally murdered.

Fleming realises the skeleton in the cave was only the beginning.

Someone has spent years burying the truth. And they’ll kill again before they let it be uncovered.
