Mark of the Witch (City of Chains #2)

A bombing plot, a witch, and the opening chapters of a civil war...

Viktor's managed to fill his pockets with some coin and take a single troublesome piece off his board but, of course, the Stone God hates a man that thinks himself lucky. It would seem that Viktor's troublesome piece was taking orders from the city's wealthiest and most megalomaniacal merchant, who doubtlessly doesn't consider the score settled. What's worse, the Church templars have heard of the use of rogue magic and decided to get themselves involved.

Like the heads of a hydra, every problem Viktor deals with only seems to lead to two more, and it's becoming increasingly clear that there's a cunning intellect behind events as they unfold. People who should have nothing to do with one another suddenly have common cause, and Viktor finds another unhappy coincidence every time he turns a corner.

To top everything off, Adelstrad's favourite executioner has managed to go and earn himself the enmity of one of the city’s most depraved noble families and something very ominous is trying to reach him through his dreams.
