Disinherited by her wealthy, mill-owning family for falling in love with a married man, Eleanor flees to Colonial Africa. Now widowed , she returns to her native country with Conan , her youngest son. On her death , Conan longs to return to Africa, and obtains a position in the National Heritage Museum, negotiating the return of stolen artefacts from Europe. But he has fallen in love with his cousin Morwenna, who runs the family estate and woollen mill , which she owns along with her American brother Albert. Albert is threatening to destroy the mill's ethos, and Morwenna is devastated. . How can Conan leave now, and abandon Morwenna to this fate? We are held in suspense as their love affair is severely tested, and wonder how Conan can possibly resolve this dilemma and save their love. .
