Last Respects (The Afterlife Files #6)

Funerals are supposed to be the end of the story. For investigative journalist Edgar Cross, they’re only the beginning.

When Edgar dies under suspicious circumstances, the town is determined to call it an accident—and bury it fast. City Hall controls the narrative, the obituary, even the guest list. But funeral director Wren Grimm knows better. One brush of empathic contact tells her the truth: Edgar was betrayed, and someone powerful is terrified of what he uncovered.

Now Wren is caught between a relentless ghost with a true-crime obsession, a vampire who treats funerals like performance art, a town administrator who weaponizes paperwork, and an ancient protector whose loyalty to Honeyvale may be more dangerous than any killer.

As officials scramble to suppress evidence and silence witnesses, Wren turns the funeral itself into an investigation—because when everyone shows up to pay their respects, secrets have nowhere left to hide.
