It follows a young man who, against his will, was forced to leave his home and serve on the front lines. Two years later, he returns to see how his family will receive him, and to demand answers from the man who drove him away in the first place.

This is a world shaped by Sage heirs, the Edge, and Gifts. The aristocracy fights to hold onto its power, but the ground is shifting as commoners learn to wield magic as well. The Emperor is dead, and no one has taken his place. The country is sliding toward chaos. Poverty spreads, the law means little, and if you are weak, you are devoured.
