A Fire Like Hers

Cedar Hollow's fire department gets called to the public library at 2:47 in the morning, and Nix Quinn is a six foot tall, ex-Army firefighter with a very small, very managed life — finds no smoke, no flames, just one furious librarian on the sidewalk in her bathrobe and a pan of burnt cinnamon rolls.

Juniper Sato is five foot one, has a master's degree she'd like on the record, and makes sure it’s Nix who comes back for the building inspection before she has finished writing the incident report. She is also the most direct woman you’ll likely meet, and she knows exactly what she wants the second she sees it.

When a storm takes out the library roof and Junie ends up in Nix’s spare room, four months of quiet routine turn into something neither of them planned. Nix has spent years arranging her life so nothing can hurt that much again. Junie has never once slowed down for anything — and it turns out the sweet, awkward librarian in the cardigan is the one in charge once the bedroom door closes, and the firefighter who runs into burning buildings goes down on her knees the second she's told to.

Cozy, filthy, small-town sapphic romance. Forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, and a soft femme who runs the show. Contains a grand gesture with seventy-five-foot ladder truck, one horseshoe crab fact deployed as a love confession, and a great deal of collateral damage to the library’s mystery section.
