A Season of Mending (The Three Cedars Series #1)

Nora Lindy has lived in Three Cedars so long the town has forgotten how much she sees. You bring her the things that need mending, and somehow end up revealing more than you meant to.

Three years after burying her husband, Nora still sleeps on her side of the bed and still slows in doorways, waiting for his hand at her back. Then Darla Whitaker brings in her late father’s old vest, and low in the lining Nora finds a seam that isn’t original. Stitched inside is a small bundle of dried herbs that smells, impossibly, like the rosemary Ray planted along their front walk.

The county says Earl Whitaker’s heart gave out, and Three Cedars is ready to agree and move on. Nora can’t, because Earl’s peach orchard keeps leading her back to her own front walk, and to a quiet part of Ray’s life she never knew to ask about.

She follows it further than she should.

Set in the Texas Hill Country, where the land keeps its own records and the weather can turn a creek in an afternoon, A Season of Mending is a novel about grief, friendship, and a woman learning, late, to make something for herself. For readers who loved Chocolat, and for anyone who ever wished they had asked one more question.
