A Tale of Two Cousins
Overview
A collection of magical fairy stories for young children and beginner readers, excellent for bedtime and independent reading.
Matilda and Petra are two cousins, but they have very different personalities-Matilda is kind, polite and gentle natured, whereas Petra is mean, spiteful and bad-mannered. When Matilda is tasked with collecting water from a well, she encounters an old lady who asks if she can have a piece of the cake Matilda has brought along for her snack. Matilda offers the old lady the cake, and is rewarded for her kindness with a special magical gift-whenever she combs her hair, emeralds and pearls will fall to the ground. As a result Matilda and her mother instantly become rich.
But when Matilda’s aunt sends Petra to the well to try her luck, Petra is rude to the old lady-and is punished by having creepy crawlies fall to the ground whenever she combs her hair!
Then the King hears about Matilda’s beauty and unusual gift, and requests she come to the palace, as he is interested in marrying her, but Matilda’s aunt, who is tasked with bringing her to the palace, is determined to stop this from happening…
