Ailis (Prairie Roses Collection)

Evicted during the Highland Clearances, Struan McLeod and his brothers were desperate to start fresh in the Red River Colony of British North America. But when their second chance quickly became another forced relocation, Struan vowed to find a place he could call his own.

For sweet Ailis Gillies, the call to join the wagon train wasn’t even an option. Compelled by her domineering brother-in-law to undertake the treacherous journey south, Ailis obediently followed the only family she had left.

The savage trek across the high plains meant enduring hardships, avoiding warring indigenous tribes, and surviving extreme weather. More importantly, unavoidable circumstances during the journey would force Ailis’ hand. Would she be obligated to choose indentured servitude or a loathsome suitor? Either way, the gentle girl could only pray for divine intervention.
